yawn
am i wrong to not be brimming over with olympic fever? when the lunch room conversation makes that inevitable turn to the summer games and i plead ignorance, you would think that i'm admitting to spending weekends clubbing baby seals... call me unpatriotic, but watching my countrymen (undoubtably professional athletes from affluent backgrounds who haven't done a decent day's work in their entire pampered lives) trounce some underprivelidged person from a country that sent 3 athletes to greece because that's all they could afford just doesn't warm my cockles... i might as well go to a high school and watch a p.e. class - big whoop - if some golden muscular guy with great hair wins 17 gold medals... what do i get out of it? will it make traffic better? will it make my hair shinier? will it help the national debt? will it bring peace to the middle east? will it stop one neglected child from going hungry tonight? the answer to all of these questions and more would be: no... i'm not saying that i hate the olympics, it's just that i couldn't care less and i don't see what the big deal is... i just think that there are more important things to the world than whether or not we won a medal in badminton...
