Lisp-ianna & Her Lazy-Eye

So, when I was little... I had the cutest little lisp... but apparently... no one else thought it was as cute as I remember it to be...because I used to go through hours of grueling speech-therapy with this therapist at my elementary school... hours of tongue twisters and sticking straws in my mouth...and trying not to say my "s"s really funny. Oh, and I had a lazy eye, too. Yeah...I was adorable.

And I got over both of those things. The therapy worked. I speak fairly well. I somehow miraculously self-corrected my lazy eye. Fabulous!

However!!! When I get (a) very drunk (b) very tired (c) very sick... they both come back. And, today I'm very sick. Why, cruel world? Why?

(Note: a HUGE part of my job requires calling a lot of people and being professional)

  • awww, cute! I tell the "lazy eye" story at every chance I get - "Yeah, my sister used to have a lisp, lazy eyes and one of those lanyard things to hold her sally jesse raphael glasses on..." right about then, people kind of get that sympathetic look (not sure if it's sympathy for you or for me) but then I tell then "Oh, but she's such the hottie now"
I seem to remember singing a few choruses of "she's got lay-zee eyes" to the tune of Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes" - in hindsight, it seems a bit mean

  • Other than the weird girl who I went to speech therapy with, I thought I was the ONLY one who ever had to do that!!! The worst is this picture of me in 3rd grade...pinafore dress...kind of a blue plaid... and me and my lazy eye have big ugly glasses with the weird string around my neck... if only photographs could show lisps...

  • I *SO* remember that picture - and it *SO* needs to be posted here - and I am *SO* going to look for it at mom's house when I'm there for Christmas - HA - the only good thing about living close to mom is the access to embarassing school pictures

  • and i always thought that your "lazy eyes" song was a combination of "betty davis eyes" and "hungry eyes"... i'm glad that's cleared up now.
