Whenever someone proudly announces "you'll either loves me or hates me", I know that I'm going to hate that person.

The "love me or hate me" thing means "I'm an asshole and I make no effort to accommodate anyone else in the human race because the motherfucking universe revolves around me".

Do you know why people act like this? Because they can. Because the universe accommodates them.

These are the people who don't merge when a lane is ending until the last possible moment.

These are the people who ignore store policies and demand discounts just for being there.

These are the people who "forget" to turn off their phones in movie theaters.

These are the people who wear those ridiculous bullet headsets and have personal conversations at full volume in public.

These are the people who stand directly outside of establishments puffing away on cigarettes.

These are the people who blast their music to such an extent that everyone in the same zip code has to hear it.

These are the people who don't even say "thank you" when you go out of your way to accommodate them.

These are the celebrities who feel justified in throwing tantrums and making completely unreasonable demands just for the sake of doing it.

cell phones and the personalization of society are supposed to be bringing us closer, but I really think that all of it serves mostly to allow the "love me/hate me" people to believe that the world really does exist to cater to them. Not to sound like a total hippy*, but you really need to do a little bit more than just stand around changing oxygen into carbon dioxide to consider yourself a contributor to society**.

So - if you're a "love me/hate me" person - stop it. Acknowledge that there are other people on the planet. If you know a "love me/hate me" person, stop letting them get away with that stuff.

*except that I made homemade granola last week, so, clearly, I am a hippy and should just purchase some patchouli and join a co-op.

** this doesn't apply to babies

  • right on... there's this take or leave it attitude and you're right, they know they can do it because no one ever stands up to them or makes a statement. Just like these people can have their moronic habits we can make it a point to tell them how stupid and annoying they are. Common courtesies are foreign to people
