you say it's your birthday

today's the day - my sister's birthday -

(all together now: happy birthday, julie!!!)

and me hundreds of miles away and unable to take her out to lunch and embarass the hell out of her by having the waiters at olive garden sing loudly to her... (seriously, is that the worst part of birthday meals, or what? i would rather have a gynecological appointment than be serenaded on my birthday)

funny story from the good side of the family - every year when any of us have a birthday, my dad and stepmom will call and as soon as you pick up the phone, they burst into this off-key version of the birthday song - and you can't stop them - and they'll sing it all the way through - and it's just about as cute as hell

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!

And the parents said they would wait until I got home to do the embarassing birthday song. Awww...birthdays are the best day to feel totally loved. My heart's all tingly.

  • When I waited tables singing the birthday song to tables was the most embarrassing, frustrating, pain-in-the-ass part of the job. Especially when everyone is busy. You have to yell at other wait persons walking by to come sing with you and get everyone together.... it's horrendous.

if it gives you comfort, my dad does the same thing to angie and i. he has called and sung to us every year. and he does this before the sun even comes up. and on AZ time, which here in WI is TOO.DAMN.EARLY.
