Anyone who has ever moved is well aware that packing is an arduous task - I usually start a month or two before the move, packing up non-essentials like winter clothes, that pasta maker from the infomercial that I HAD to have yet haven't used in at least 6 years, and that set of brown 1970s cappuccino cups that my mom gave me that I've never used, but somehow can't get rid of.In the beginning, I label everything so carefully. A couple more weeks into the packing, I start marking boxes as "stuff" and "things" and then by moving day, I'm just tossing everything into a box and taping it shut.
For this move, though, my husband's mad aerospace skillz have netted us a relocation package that includes packing. Suh-weet, right?
Sure, unless you've got social issues like I do - then you'd be all stressed out over people being in your house all day and touching your stuff. Especially a couple of them have been all uppity about it, acting like they're too good for the work.
Fortunately, I've still got the interweb (for at least another 16 hours or so) and a lovely lunch with my grown-up friend, Betsy provided a brief respite from the soul-crushing stress (and I've got a dinner date with a derby friend, and then a "Grey's Anatomy" date with my hot wife and some red wine)
Tomorrow the movers will be here and I'll be completely homeless for 5 - 7 days (estimating on the low side) so we're taking our time in making the trip. Tomorrow night is Jacksonville, then I'm spending Saturday and Sunday at my dad's house, then somewhere in Louisiana on Monday night, Tuesday we get to Texas and spend a night in Houston, then we should be to Corpus Christi by Wednesday - and hopefully our stuff will be arriving that day or shortly thereafter. (please keep your fingers crossed for me)
Please note that I plan on being a deluxe basket of stress and anxiety until I am at least partially settled into the new house, so I'll go ahead and apologize now for my behavior - sorry, I didn't mean it, it will never happen again, I'll pay for the damage/apologize to your mom/pay whatever restitution I need to pay. There - are we good?
next update: from the road (everywhere we're staying - except my dad's house - has wireless internet, so hopefully I won't miss anything good... if I do, just send me a text or call me, okay?)
