You know how you talk LOUDER to someone who doesn't speak English because that helps them understand it?

My mom does that with my kid, in text format.

Her emails will start with the standard greeting to me, then "AND HI QUINN" - because, you know, when I open an email, my kid can hear that if it's in all caps.

And yesterday she sent him a Christmas card or something and wrote the note to him IN GIANT LETTERS - because, you know, he can understand it better that way. (if she were worried about not understanding her handwriting, I would think she would have NOT WRITTEN IN CURSIVE)

Now, for the record, my mom was in the room when my kid was born, so she knows that we didn't adopt him from China. And she knows that he's lived in the United States his entire life, so she knows he hables Englais. And she knows he's nearly 10 years old, so he's been reading for maybe five or six years.

Long story short? my mom is wacky.
