The saddest thing in the world is to walk into a veterinarian's office with a dog, and walk out half an hour later without her while all of the other dog owners in the lobby give you that look.

The second saddest thing in the world is seeing her empty bowl at feeding time and having to stash it away.

My greyhound, Gabby, would have been 12 next month, we've had her since she was about 2 (when she retired from racing) - she lived with us in 4 states and was the sweetest, most adorable collection of ribs and gangly legs ever. This afternoon the vet's best guess was that she was suffering from heart failure and lung cancer. We were told that we were lucky to have had her as long as we did, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

This is my favorite picture of her:

  • Stopping by visiting other Savannah bloggers this evening.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about this time of sorrow. 12 years is a long time and I'm sure she's given you tons of love all through it.

I know, there's nothing I could say to make you feel any better except to say that I understand your loss and care.

    Hang in there.

  • That is one of the hardest things. I am so sorry. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I am sure he is chasing rabbits in doggy heaven. He and my Whitman boy can play now.
