I've been sans poo for an entire week
And?My hair still feels like crap. I've been washing it with baking soda every 2 - 3 days and using a (completely ineffective and kind of stinky) organic conditioner. Today it looked a tad better, my curls were halfway curly and shiny. And it's not frizzy anymore, but that's probably because it's too greasy to be frizzy.
It's supposed to take a full two weeks for my hair to "detox" and become fabulous, and if it doesn't, that will be a whole lot of wasted ponytails.
I'm not sure, though, that the complete dirty hippy/granola thing is going to work for me - I mean, it's cheap and all, but... well... the thing is, I kind of like using a nice-smelling shampoo. But then there's that pesky destroying-the-environment thing, you know? So I've decided to seek out alternatives to traditional shampoo - like the organic bar shampoo I found on eBay and the vegan* salt shampoo I found elsewhere on the internet. I might even break down and get one of the ridiculously expensive ones (Oh, Wen, how you seduce me with your infomercials... but have you seen the creator? He's like Sigfried and Roy's bastard child) So I figure I'll give each one a couple of weeks and see what works best. (who wants to bet that it's the freaking spendy stuff?)
Of course, I have a terrible feeling that green shampoo** will be a gateway to other enviro-friendly stuff - like organic cleaning products and a hybrid car. I draw the line at hemp clothes and vegan hot dogs, though.

Oh, and that OMG-GIANT-HURRICANE that had all of my neighbors evacuating and/or boarding up their homes, and had me and my kid nailing up plywood at the farm? We didn't even get any rain from it. Whew. What a freaking relief. I need to move inland, several hundred miles - or just enough to get out of Texas.
*isn't most shampoo vegan? I mean, is there really bacon shampoo?
** not like this
