Everyone's making budget cuts

including my unconscious.

Last night, I dreamed about a lake I saw in a dream a few months ago. It wasn't the same dream, different plot, different characters, but shot on the same set. Oh, except last time, there were Killer Whales in the lake (???) and this time there were dolphins and whale sharks.

I have weird dreams.

Last night's (non-medicated) dream included a vulture, a peacock, an offer to move to New York, a cool (shared - because even in my dreams I don't make enough to live there) apartment in New York, a nude baby doll, horseback riding and a pony.

Which means -

vulture: a vulture indicates that you or someone is being opportunistic. Someone is watching you and is waiting for you to take a misstep (don't worry, I'm sure you won't have to wait long for me to step on a banana peel or walk into a wall).

peacock: the peacock signifies pride, confidence and vanity. You may be showing off too much or are overly arrogant with your success and achievements (sorry if I'm just proud of having candy corn-colored hair and getting caught doing a pit check in public).

New York: If you do not live in New York, but dream that you are in New York, then it symbolizes your fast paced lifestyle (I did get out of my pajamas 2 - count them, 2 - days last week - talk about a jet-setter! P. Diddy wakes up in the morning feeling like me.).

apartment: To dream of a large, lavish apartment, indicates an increase to your financial situation or an improvement to your family life (so... you're telling me to buy a lottery ticket?).

doll: To see a doll in your dream, symbolizes childhood innocence and light-hearted fun (well if that doesn't describe my entire life, I don't know what does). The dream also indicates an immature attitude towards the opposite sex (lalalalala, I can't hear you, neener neener).

horseback riding: the dream represents your lack of integrity (again with the judge-y shit). You will achieve success through underhanded means (but I will achieve success, right?).

pony: To see a pony in your dream, signifies the playful aspects of your life (or maybe I just want a fucking pony, have you ever thought about that, Dream?).

The sun'll come out, tomorrow*...

So, in last night's dream, I was, for some reason, being taken care of** by a rich blond lady who lived in a great house. Also, she had a chauffeur and we went to nice restaurants. And she had photographs of herself all the hell over the house - but whatever, she had money, she gets to be a narcissist, right?

adoption - To dream that you are adopted, suggests that you are longing for the child within you (um... thought we already covered the whole just-had-my-period-last-week thing?).

blond - To see a blond person in your dream, suggests that you need to enjoy life and live it up. Be a little glamorous (brb, putting on my cashmere and emerald undergarments).

chauffeur - To dream that you are being chauffeured, signifies extravagance and luxury. (if you need me, I'll be blowing my nose with thousand dollar bills)

restaurant - To dream that you are in a restaurant, suggests that you are feeling overwhelmed by decisions and choices that you need to make in your life (Talk about overwhelmed - I mean, every damn dollar menu in town has, like 20 items!!!!). Alternatively, it indicates that you are seeking for emotional nourishment outside of your social support system (ugh, can't I just get a damn supplement for that?).

photographs - To see a photograph in your dream, indicates that there is a relationship that needs your attention. You are not looking deep enough into the problem (STOP JUDGING ME, DREAMS - I will be as shallow as I want!!!!).

*accidentally appropriate because it actually IS raining here today - who knew it rained in California?

**not like I was a lesbian-gigolo (that sounds like a delicious Italian dessert)... I guess that would be a prostitute? Sugar baby? She was, apparently taking care of me because I needed a babysitter... so I guess I just want to be clear that I'm an idiot, not a whore... Yep, that's about right.

so I was in the middle of writing this post about the different content filters I have for different friends and how sometimes I can be debating with one friend the virtues of nostalgia versus no-stalgia* and talking about what to say when a stripper asks you to pay her phone bill** with another friend, but then I got tired and went to bed.

And then last night in my non-pharmaceutical sleep, I dreamed that I had blond(ish) streaks in my hair and it actually looked kind of cool. I also dreamed that... my Aunt Flow was visiting (she's not... not that she's late or anything, no need to plan a second-coming party, she just visited a week or so ago... aren't you glad you know?).

blond - To dream that you dye your hair blond, indicates that you literally need to lighten up and quit being so serious all the time. Try to be more upbeat (really? Have we met? I mean, really. The only way I could be less serious would be if I wore a rainbow afro wig and a big red nose... guess I need to go shopping today?)

but I was still kind of brunette - To see or dream that you are a brunette, indicates that you need to be more down to earth (great, my dreams are encouraging me to be granola - brb, stocking up on patchouli oil). It may also be symbolic of your sultriness and smoldering sexuality (... sure, what could be more sultry than a girl who posts pictures of scabby knees and can sprain her ankle WALKING [which I did last week, thankyouverymuch]).

menstruation - To dream of menstruation, indicates that you are releasing your pent-up tension and worry. It signals an end to the difficult times and the beginning of relaxation (I'll get another refill of Ambien?). Some creative energy is being released or recognized (FINALLY, someone is going to recognize my mad photography skillz and I'm going to be able to buy a fabulous loft in New York and make a living behind a camera) . Alternatively, the dream means that you are denying your feminine side (so... I guess this means I need to stop standing up to pee?)

*not surprisingly, I'm pro-no-stalgia, possibly because I've been on a cleaning-out binge lately, getting rid of way too much stuff (physical and emotional and email-otional) lately.

** the correct response was to suggest she "get a prepaid phone" or "be a better stripper"

hey, look at me, talking about my dreams again

so, last night in my dream, I was at the grocery store again, and I had a small dog. And then I was in a really cute retro-looking bathroom and there was a snail outside of its shell. And then I dreamed I was really sleepy. Yes, I dreamed I was sleepy, could I have more boring dreams?

Aaaaanyway, this means -

grocery store - To dream that you are in a market, represents some emotional or physical need that you are currently lacking in your life. You may be in need of nurturance and some fulfillment. (So apparently, my life is still lacking - shocking!!! And I still don't think nurturance is a word.)

small dog - To see a dog in your dream, symbolizes intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. The dream suggests that your strong values and good intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and bring you success (um... I don't know where you're getting your information, DREAM, but I've never been accused of having strong values OR good intentions, thankyouverymuch). The dream dog may also represent someone in your life who exhibits these qualities (clearly, you don't know my friends). Alternatively, to see a dog in your dream, indicates a skill that you may have ignored or forgotten (I resent the implication that I ever had any skillz in the first place).

bathroom - To dream that you are in the bathroom, relates to your instinctual urges (or perhaps I've been drinking too much water before bed?). Alternatively, a bathroom symbolizes purification and self-renewal. You need to cleanse yourself, both emotionally and psychologically (or perhaps I need more fiber?).

snail - To see a snail in your dream, suggests that you are being overly sensitive (shut up, ME????? Why would you say something like that? Are you saying I look fat?). You are feeling inhibited, but desire to be more outgoing and energetic (yeah, pretty sure I've never desired to be more outgoing. And if I need to be more energetic, that's what coffee is for, thankyouverymuch). Alternatively, a snail suggests that you are making steady progress toward a goal (hey, I kind of resent the implication that I've ever had goals*).

sleepy - To feel sleepy in your dream, suggests that you are letting an opportunity pass you by if you do not take action (well, sure, Dream, that's all good and well, how about you help me out a bit by telling me what action would be appropriate to take before said opportunity completely forgets about me passes me by). You need to pay more attention to your surroundings. Perhaps you are lacking knowledge or awareness in some area or issue (well, sure, but that could be said about anyone, right? I mean, I don't know anything about the GNP of Lithuania, but perhaps you should stop being so judge-y, Dream)

*just kidding, I've actually got a whole list of goals I wrote up the other day, shhhh, don't tell anyone.

in case you were wondering...

if I email you to tell you I think it's inconsiderate for you to have brought two extra people with you when I invited you to dinner IN MY DREAM, the correct response is:

"We totally should have called ahead to tell you we were bringing those people we met on Craigslist.  Sorry about that.  It won't happen again."

But you would probably only know that if we are related.

~~~~~~~~
in an unrelated note, today was my 100th day of posting on my photo blog thing, you should go check it out because I posted a picture of my spectacular new camera... and boobs... which is the only reason you're going to check it out, so, again... boobs...
I hate remembering creepy dreams from the night before right before I go to bed...
Last night, I dreamed that I was wearing this yellow dress that I never wear and there was a giant hairy tarantula clinging to the edge of it and I was screaming like a crazy person (which I would totally do were there a giant hairy tarantula anywhere in the same building as me) and none of the people around me were helping.
Then I got the disgusting thing off of me, but then it was on my bed and there were gross hairy baby tarantulas on the bed, too.
So, the dream interpretation thing says:
To see a tarantula in your dream, represents your dark and sinister side (Clearly I am subconsciously trying to tell myself that I've been wearing too much eyeliner lately). Or perhaps you want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation (Um... how should I put this? Oh, right... no. If a situation is both alluring AND tempting? Why the hell would I want to keep my distance OR stay away? If a situation were only one or the other, sure, maybe, but both? Sign. Me. Up.)
me and my dumb dreams again
Last night? Another airplane dream, and then I was hanging out with Sammy Hagar*.
*I would just like to make it abundantly clear that there were no shenanigans going on between me and the Red Rocker - I will totally cop to being dream-engaged to Roy Scheider**, dream-making out with Mark Cuban, and letting dream-John Mayer touch my butt, but Sammy Hagar? Ew, okay? Just, ew.
** for the record, this was younger, Jaws-era Roy Scheider, thankyouverymuch
apparently, I'm one of those people who incessantly talks about her dreams...
I might as well just let my hair grow down to my knees, buy myself an industrial-sized dream catcher and some turquoise jewelry and move out to the desert where I can wear clothes made of natural fibers.
So last night, I dreamed I was leavin' on an airplane, going on some trip that was going to take 23 days with just as many plane changes and I was going to have to change clothes every time I changed planes.
Let's just see what the internet has to say about that -
Airplanes - To see an airplane in your dream, indicates that you will overcome your obstacles and rise to a new level of prominence and status. Perhaps you need to gain a better perspective or wider view on something (STOP JUDGING ME, DREAMS!). If the airplane is taking off, then it suggests that an idea or plan is about to "take off" and be put into action. It may also represent you need to get away and escape from your daily life.
Changing planes -
To dream that you transfer planes, implies an important transitional phase in your life which will take you away from your intended path. These changes will take you to new directions and new heights of status and recognition (wow, is that even possible?).
Changing clothes -
To dream that you are constantly changing your clothes, represents the need for change and your need to fit into a new situation or role. You need to establish a new self-image.
Locker room (where I was changing clothes) - To dream that you are in a locker room, suggests that you need time to cool off and calm down. It also indicates that you are involved in some tough competition or overcoming an obstacle in your life. Perhaps you are trying to pursue a love interest (pursuing a love interest IN A LOCKER ROOM? What am I, a 14-year-old boy?).
Well, I guess I can cosign most of this - I've been... thinking about some stuff lately, making some changes (okay, thinking about making changes if you want to get all semantic and shit), but for the first time in my life, I'm sort of feeling a tiny bit ambitious about something (or maybe I'm getting the flu). It's nothing I'm necessarily going to share just yet... and, no, I'm not finally running away to join the circus (that's plan B, but only because I'm worried that the tutu would make my hips look HUGE).
those damn dreams again!
this time, I was in a grocery store picking through racks of Easter candy. I wonder what the internet could possibly have to say about that????
Market - To dream that you are in a market, represents some emotional or physical need that you are currently lacking in your life. You may be in need of nurturance and some fulfillment. Consider the specific items that you are shopping for.
Whoa whoa whoa, I'm currently lacking something in my life? Shut. Up. Who would have guessed?
I never would have assumed, though, that Cadbury Eggs were what was missing. If my stupid dreams had just told me this a long time, it would have saved me lots and lots of poor decisions.
Lots and lots.
And lots.
Now if someone would just don a little fuzzy tail and tell me where to find some gooey chocolate eggs, you'll be my hero/BFF/soulmate/dearest darling pumpkinhead.
Oh, and is "nurturance" even a word?
Oh... dreaaaaamweaver
so, when I first started taking my crazy pills, one or two of them warned of "vivid nightmares" - I didn't get any nightmares, but I had vividly boring dreams - dreams of stuff like IMing with people or doing the dishes.
As of the last week or so, I've cut back on the cray cray meds* because I thought maybe I'd experiment with what it was like to have emotions again** and not have to remember to take anything other than a vitamin every once in a while.
In that week, I've been having the freakiest dreams, but last night was the freakiest - first, I was being chased through a series of seedy motels and government offices in LA by some serial killer guy. Then, I was walking down some road in a forest and there were bears, lots of them. Then I was hanging out with Pau Gasol in a school.
I finally decided that maybe I'm trying to tell myself something, so I turned to the internet a noted expert in dream interpretation for a little guidance -
Killer - To see a killer in your dream, suggests that an essential aspect of your emotions have been cut off (me? Nooooooooo). You feel that you are losing your identity and your individuality. Alternatively, this dream may represent purification and the healing process. You are standing up for yourself and putting a dramatic end to something.
Motel - To see or live in a motel in your dream, represents your potential to achieve your goals. You are going through a transitional phase. (um, really? living in a motel represents my potential to achieve my goals? Sure, if my goals include a meth habit and making my living off of $5 blow jobs. This is a motel we're talking about, not a suite at the Four Seasons)
bears - To see a bear in your dream, symbolizes independence, the cycle of life, death and renewal. It may signal of period of introspection and thinking. The dream may also be a pun on "bare". Perhaps you need to bare your soul and let everything out into the open. (introspection? soul baring? great, looks like I either need to develop a drinking problem or break out the Ambien again and send out some emails, since we know how spectacular I am at sharing my feelings...)
Pau Gasol - oddly enough, there is no interpretation for hanging out with 7' tall basketball playing Spaniards. wtf is that about?
School - to dream that you are in school, signifies feelings of inadequacy and childhood insecurities that have never been resolved. It may relate to anxieties about your performance and abilities.
So... basically, my dreams are telling me that I'm an emotionally closed off mess with a veritable pantload of issues. Thanks for the newsflash, I had NO idea.
* and the sleep meds, in spite of my torrid infatuation with zolpidem
** that experiment is going swimmingly, I've apparently got access to the whole spectrum of human emotion - who knew?
This is what happens when you get stuck in a male household watching EVERY SINGLE NBA PLAYOFF GAME
I had a dream I was making out with Mark Cuban.
And I don't know that I'd even really consider myself a Mavericks fan*.
*Not that I have anything against Dallas, per se, they're a talented team, Dirk Nowitzki is one of the most under-appreciated players in the league, and I'm sure they're going to beat San Antonio in this round - but my basketball affection is generally split between the Lakers (because I'm a California girl and because their coach looks like my dad) and the Celtics (because they're such a scrappy team and because they have the coolest uniforms in the NBA [is that the girliest reason ever? Quite possibly])
just why?
why, if I've never listened to Insane Clown Posse, couldn't identify one of their songs if I had a gun to my head, and know nothing about them save for the fact that their fans are clown-faced thugs, did I have a dream in which I was at one of their concerts?
Why can't I even have a halfway normal social life in my dreams?
reason # 5277 why you shouldn't eat Flaming Hot Cheetos before bed
I dreamed that I was staying in some resort on the beach in Las Vegas, that I had a gunshot wound through my hand and that I was engaged to Roy Scheider (and that he'd bought me the ugliest engagement ring EVER and, for that alone, I was thinking about calling it off - seriously, this thing was bad, it looked like one of those gaudy things that screw on to the top of a lamp. An ugly lamp).
I had a dream where Dolly Parton was trying to kill me.
Of all of the celebrities in the world, isn't Dolly Parton pretty much the last person you'd expect to try to kill you? I mean, Gary Busey or Pink, sure, but Dolly Parton? Come on.
Besides, I could totally take her, she's like four feet tall and her hair and boobs would make her all kinds of top-heavy.
I was dreamin' when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray... I mean, I've been up since 2AM, so don't expect this to make much sense.
And, for the record, I've been up since 2AM because my husband decided to save several bucks by booking out flight out of San Antonio (2 hours away), which is fine, but he also decided to save a couple more bucks by booking a flight that left at 6:19AM. I know. WTF?
And save for the five minutes of sleep I got in the Denver airport (interrupted by some rhinoceros who came and sat on my hair), I'm still awake, running on... I don't know, some gummi bears and vitamin C tablets.
South Dakota is tragically beautiful in a starkly beige, late Fall, middle America kind of way (and every man in the airport was wearing either camouflage or a cowboy hat.) and it's over 20 degrees cooler than Texas, so you shall hear no complaining from me about that.
In spite of legions of trailer parks, Rapid City has this adorable small town charm - the downtown is such a postcard that I want to go all Thomas Kincaid and paint several canvases of it.
We just got back from having lunch at a diner that hasn't been updated in any way (except for, maybe, the wait staff) since 1978 - there was wood paneling, stylish brown water glasses (the glass was brown, not the water) and scratched up tables, laminated to look like wood grain. The menu was just as wonderful, burgers, sandwiches, salads, pancakes and patty melts. I had a buffalo burger and it was served on plates that I'm pretty sure my mom owned in 1988.
What is it about little dives like that? They seem so much more honest than chain restaurants - as much as I like to try different food, there's something refreshing about plastic menus with no restaurant of chipotle or fusion food.
Oh, and people in the Denver airport? Are ridiculous. Could I see a few more pairs of fucking Ugg boots and gaucho pants? I doubt it. Or guys wearing ridiculously puffy vests and leather sandals. "Ooooh, I'm really cold... but not cold enough to necessitate sleeves or covering my damn toes." Stop. It.
I.
Am.
Tired.
I should be writing (since I'm all writey mcproductive lately) but... 2AM!!!!
Tomorrow? Big carved mountain. I feel so... American.
If you have a dream about someone that you only know about this much, is it completely weird to tell them? I mean, that's sort of how Andi and I got to be friends, but would a guy with whom I've only exchanged a few emails get the completely wrong idea if I told him that he was in my dream*?
Cate, and the amazing technicolor dream coif
It's nearly my two week-iversary with indigo hair and, as anyone who's ever technicolored his or her hair knows, bright colors wash out and/or fade fairly rapidly.
Can I just go back to brown after this?
Or should I continue with the colors? I'm considering Tangerine (like Franci), or Turquoise (sorta like this, but maybe a smidge darker) or Pink (kinda like this) -
Beans has vetoed green, because of the upcoming holidays, so I won't look like this
And I still have some blue dye, so I could continue to look like this
decisions, decisions, decisions...
